1998 General Election
Constitutional Amendment No. 2, Part A, was the result of the passage of LR 45CA in 1998 by the Nebraska Legislature.
LR 45CA proposed to amend Article VIII, section 1, to provide that the "tax proceeds from motor vehicles taxed in each county" must be "allocated to the county and the cities, villages, and school districts of such county." That section currently requires motor vehicle tax proceeds in each county to be "allocated to the county, townships, cities, villages, school districts, and other governmental subdivisions of such county in the same proportion that the levy of each bears to the total levy of the county on taxable property.
LR 45CA was passed by the Legislature on a 38-6 vote and was presented to the Secretary of State on April 9, 1998. The measure appear on the November 1998 general election ballot and was approved by the voters.
